Finally tuned the sewing machine to sew two layers of spinnaker material

Between a week of frustration, a week long business trip and a week of being sick, I finally got the sewing machine tuned to sew two layers of spinnaker material.  The material was bunching up, no matter how I adjusted the upper and bobbin tension.

I ended up getting the following:
  • new bobbin case
  • new bobbins
  • #12 needles
  • V-30 thread
I also had to adjust the timing and shuttle rotation, as well as the rotational timing.  The manual is very detailed on how to fine tune the LSZ-1 Sailrite sewing machine.  Apparently there's a DVD that comes with every new machine that's bought, and if you call their hotline for help, they will send you links to the part of the DVD video that will address your specific problem.  If you read the instructions carefully enough, and pay attention to the diagrams, you can do it yourself.  Here's the link to their DVD video segments for tuning the sewing machine:  http://www.sailrite.com/Cap-Spring-Hook-Needle-Bar-Driver-Timing-for-Ultrafeed#.UzcQPahdXTo

Between the finer needle and thread, the new bobbin case which I could tweak the tension for the spinnaker material, and the separate bobbins where I could string up the different thread sizes, I was finally successfully able to do a hem on a scrap of spinnaker!

A medium setting on size and zigzag was perfect for the hem.

Check out the stitch on the farthest left, perfect!

Well, it is not exactly straight...  :)

Next, I will be patching the pool cover's holes and rips, in preparation for doing the clews.
